For all Bayside Residents, Homeowners and Taxpayers, here is BaysideLiveTV’s coverage of the controversy over the NYC SCA’s (School Construction Authority) proposal to take over the Bayside Jewish Center facility on 32nd Ave, tear it down and build a five story, 700 student capacity high school on the site. The videos posted here give you an in depth look into people from both sides of the story.
This video features Senator Tony Avella as he confronts the SCA representatives about the site selection process. As you will hear, everyone (with the exception of the SCA reps) at the CB 11 meeting applauded Senator Avella’s attack and outspoken views on the errors of todays government processes in general and specifically about the shortcomings of the SCA’s flawed site selection process. All we can say here is watch this rock star speech from a local statesman and leader.
IT WORKED !!!
Here is the video of the press conference held by Senator Tony Avella calling on NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio to withdraw the SCA’s proposal of a high school on 32nd Ave that many believe was the final blow that forced the SCA to abandon its pursuit of the Bayside Jewish Center for their site selection. Accompanying this is a video of statements made by Civic Leaders Chadney Spencer and Janet McEneaney at that same press conference as well as our own Gregg Sullivan‘s questions to the Senator at that press conference.

Though the community opposition to the proposed school site inspired “Verbal” support from all the local politicians, one hidden step of the process still threatened the community’s wishes and could have still allowed the SCA to do what it wished regardless of reason or consensus. That hidden threat to the community was addressed by Bayside Live TV News Producer Gregg Sullivan in his question to Senator Avella. Here is the Q&A as provided for by Senator Avella’s opening up for questions from the press.
Here’s a big one. It’s the video documentary on the protest rally that was held down at Councilman Paul Vallone’s office on Saturday , November 7th 2015. Our goal here is to give you another set of eyes and ears and to produce content that places you right in the middle of the experience so that you can sense what it was like being there for your
self. In addition to giving you an additional set of eyes and ears we’re also empowering your voice to make sure you’re heard and known as a force to be reckoned with.
In the heat of the controversy over the SCA’s pushing to seize the Bayside Jewish Center on 32nd Ave, to end all the hear say, Bayside LiveTV Executive Producer Gregg Sullivan took the time to run down to a press conference on zoning held by Councilman Paul Vallone to get his official position on the question “Will he stand by the Community Boards rejection of the SCA’s School proposal or will he vote in another direction?” Here from Councilman Vallone himself is his position to support the Community Boards decision.
Thanks to local activists like Dave Solano, the real issues behind the controversy are being realized and the real questions are getting asked. You have to hand it to Dave for getting in there and calling it like it is and cutting through the bs to get to the heart of the matter and take the SCA to task. There are a lot of people fighting this fight like Chasney Spencer and Ros Russo and George Stein and so many others that you’ll hear from in our coverage but no one has been more up front and center than Dave. Take a listen and feel free to join us in applauding a truly great, civic minded man like this. Thank you Dave !!!
If you’d like to get to the heart of one off the sparks igniting this fire it’s the controversy that stems from what the neighborhood voices have to say and the complete dismissal by tax payer employed civil servants of their views. Here is the report, the findings and decisions of Community Board 11’s Education Committee Chaired by Laura James . The report’s unequivocal conclusion was to emphatically REJECT the SCA’s plan to purchase the Bayside Jewish Center to build a high school . Here is what CB 11 concluded and their vote to reject. It’s important to listen to this report and the vote to reject the SCA’s plan because after this you will get to hear the SCA’s representative completely disregard it and all the points it makes and state clearly that they will go ahead with their own plans regardless.
Michael Mirisola, SCA Director of External Affairs gives a very brief presentation regarding the SCA’s proposal process of school site selection and states that the SCA does not use “Eminent Domain” to acquire property.
During a protest rally outside Councilman Paul Vallone’s office where the community voiced its outrage at the SCA’s high school proposal, CB 11 Board Member Steve Behar spoke to the crowd about Vallone’s true influence and authority over the project and was clear that should this proposal for a high school go through replacing the one story Bayside Jewish Center on 32nd Ave with a five story High School, it will be a direct result of Vallone’s and no one else’s actions. Here in an exclusive interview, Steve shares this information with you.
